The Favor Screenings at AFI.Dallas Sponsored by WIF.D
Director/Screenwriter, Eva Aridjis gave audiences a special opportunity to participate in a Q&A following both screenings of her film, The Favor, at AFI.Dallas. Those that braved the torrential downpours heard candid feedback as Eva spoke about this film and the script, which she authored. She discussed her approach on how she directed her first narrative feature, the shoot schedule, achieving the overall look, and how the musical compositions were chosen. Supporting actor Ryan Dono who participated in the Friday night screening and Q&A, also shared how he prepared for the role.
The Favor, starring Ryan Dono, a 16 year old Johnny, Frank Wood as Lawrence, Paige Turco as Caroline, and Isidra Vegas as Mariana, webs an intricate yet comedic tale of love, sacrifice, and heroism. In this loving story of a non-traditional family brought together by tragedy, Eva meshes the unlikely hearts of Johnny, whose mother has just passed away, and Lawrence, the high school sweetheart of Johnny’s mother, who then becomes Johnny’s guardian. While Johnny’s teenage antics causes havoc in Lawrence’s otherwise solace home, the undeniable bond that develops refuses to break.
Eva also directed and produced the documentary Children of the Street, which won Best Long Documentary at the Morelia International Film Festival, and was nominated at the Ariel Awards in Mexico for Best Feature Length Documentary and Best First Work. Additionally, Eva’s short Taxidermy: The Art of Imitating Life received a nod for Jury Award at the Newport Film Festival.
The Favor has been selected as part of the Narrative Competition for the AFI.Dallas Film Festival.
WIF.Dallas thanks all those that attended this special screenings and if you get the chance, see this moving film.

Many Thanks to TXMPA and Supporters!
For those of you who could not attend or view the webcast of the TXMPA event on Sunday, you missed out! It was fabulous! Many thanks to David Friedman of Dallas Audio Post, who coordinated the event. Another feather in the cap, and a great follow up to Lobby Day. Special thanks to all of those who volunteered their time, talents, and services, without whom the event would not have been possible.
And thank you to all of the sponsors of this special event, and to those who dug deep into their pockets and made donations to TXMPA. The effort to bring production incentives to Texas continues, and money is needed to allow TXMPA to move forward. Your generosity will make a difference. Donations can be made at any time through www.txmpa.org.
WIF.D was well-represented Sunday. Five Board members and countless WIF.D members attended the event! Pictures coming soon!
Thank you to all who participated; let's keep up the good fight!

"Soft Deductions" is a short experimental film based on an artist book by Trayc McKissick, and screens Saturday, August 12 at Noon the Dallas Theater Center in the Video Lounge. The process of making judgments and the biases that result from it are explored in an exposition of lucid actors, steady sound, and telling words of this experimental piece.
Thursday, August 10, 2006:
From Shirley Thompson and Trayc McKissick:
"KillerSexy": a 17 minute sexy thriller that will showcase as part of Texas Stories. It features Lucy Bannister and Michael Monk, and was written by Jana Perez. From Cynthia Salzman Mondell:
"Louie, Louie: A Portrait in Parkinson's":
Louis Salzman had at least one thing in common with Pope John Paul II, Muhammad Ali and Michael J. Fox - Parkinson's Disease. Behind these famous faces, Louis Salzman is but one of the estimated 4 million people worldwide affected by this neurological disorder. In a very warm and human way, the film explores how this disease affected not only Louis Salzman but also the lives and relationships of those responsible for his emotional and physical caregiving over the course of his illness.
Thursday, August 10th at 7pm Angelika Dallas.
Also from Cynthia and Allen Mondell:
"The Monster Among Us" (Scenes from a Work-in-Progress):

Wednesday, August 9, 2006:
Women In Film.Dallas sponsored a screening of "Jumping Off Bridges":
Painted in backdrop of fall colors, two highschool friends spend their days listening to indie music, jumping off bridges for fun, and escaping their everyday lives. To a soundtrack reminiscent of early 90s alternative rock, their carefree teenage lives are catapulted to adulthood by one fateful event. Another poetic look at adolescence by Kat Candler. Screens with "Natalie at Five O'Clock".
Women in Film.Dallas is proudly screening the film "Caching In," which was a finalist in this year's 24 hour Video Race. The film screens as part of the 24 hour video race compilation at 9:45 pm at the Angelika Film Center, and was a collaboration among many Women in Film members and friends.
Tuesday, August 8, 2006:
"Trail of Tears": "During the early 19th century, thousands of Cherokee tribes were forced to flee from their ancestral homeland to modern-day Oklahoma. This brutal journey, notorious as “America’s darkest hour,” is revealed in this potent documentary by Chip Richie." Deb Cornish did sound design and James Neel provided an awesome score, both WIF.D members.

WIF.Dallas 2006 Board of Directors Meet-n-Greet
Bread Winners Cafe

Thursday, February 2, 2005
What a Night!
All I can say is WOW. Last night over 120 women and men packed Bread Winners Cafe for our Meet and Greet the New 2006 Board fête. The room was filled with energy, creativity and film talk. We expanded our membership by ten. Our new members range from people those that have never ever been to a WIF.D event to people who are returning after having taken a hiatus. Expanding our membership rolls is great, but what is even better is that our new members asked about volunteer opportunities. We are attracting people who want to be involved.
I must stop and congratulate Trayc and Jana. This was their brainchild and it was hugely successful. Marissa and Trayc worked the sign-in table and Meridith and Dee signed up new members on the other side of the room. Most of our fabulous Board was there mingling and talking about Women In Film.Dallas. And of course we appreciate all the people who took photos.
I must say I was a bit worried about having everyone introduce themselves. But people loved it. They felt comfortable and relaxed. And it added so much to this special evening. There are so many people working on exciting film projects in Dallas. And as at all WIF events, deals ere discussed, projects were promoted, work was found and new friendships were made.
We have a great Board and a great expanding membership. WIF.Dallas has once again shown that it plays a major role in the North Texs Film Community.
With Pride,
Cynthia Salzman Mondell
WIF.D President
