WIF.D Announces Chick Flicks Winners

Jessica Dorfman awarded Juror's Choice Award for her short film Good Guys, Inc. and Linda Stogner received the Audience Choice Award for her documentary The Chip that Jack Built

Dallas – October 2009 – WIF.D is pleased to announce the winners for the 8th annual Chick Flicks Film Festival 2009. Jessica Dorfman was awarded the Juror’s Choice Awards for her short film Good Guys, Inc. while local Dallas producer Linda Stogner received the Audience Choice Award for her documentary The Chip that Jack Built.

Artist Jana Perez was also honored for her service and dedication to WIF.D with the first and only Design Diva Award. For more than four years, Perez gave her time, energy, and talent to WIF.D creating numerous collector’s posters and logos. She is also an assistant professor at Texas Women’s University and photographer.

The Chick Flicks Film Festival and Series not only showcases new and seasoned talent, but it is also one of the most important fundraising events for WomenInFilm.Dallas. The proceeds directly benefit our foundation, which awards a scholarship and project completion grant to Texas women every year.

“We received a record number of submissions this year and were pleased to showcase outstanding work that represents the diverse talents and perspectives of local women filmmakers,” said Jessica Schoenbaechler, the Program Director and Co-Chair of Chick Flicks.

After first getting her hands on a video camera at the Boston Film and Video Foundation, Austin filmmaker Jessica Dorfman went on to work at the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco as a youth media instructor. She is currently pursuing an MFA in film production at the University of Texas at Austin.

“Good Guys, Inc. was among my first narrative short films, and I was thrilled to have it play at the Chick Flicks Film Festival,” said Dorfman. “As a woman trying to build a career in film, I so appreciate the support that WomenInFilm.Dallas gives to fellow women filmmakers - it makes all the difference.”

Dallas producer Linda Stogner’s work on KERA’s Nowhere But Texas, Nowhere But Texas 2, the national PBS series Life 360 Adopted, and WIF.D’s 2004 PSA have earned numerous awards, including three Gracie Awards, regional Emmys, a national Clarion Award, and a prestigious Gold Hugo Award.

“I am so excited about this award. I wasn't sure how an audience would respond to our little film about the shy inventor of the microchip…I mean the integrated circuit is not the sexiest subject matter, but the fact that the audience embraced it is thrilling,” said Stogner. “I love Chick Flicks and I am so proud to be a member of http://www.facebook.com/l/0abb7;WomenInFilm.Dallas.”

Women In Film.Dallas (WIF.D) is part of a global community committed to empower, promote and mentor its membership in film, television and new media. WIF.D, a non-profit organization of women and men, provides educational forums, opportunities for advancement, and networking for entry-level positions and established professionals within the entertainment industry.
