  • Learn from startlingly true-to-life depictions of the most common planning mistakes a person can make when owning and operating a business
  • Discover how to apply proven tactics to help run your business more effectively
  • Discuss the rational vs. the emotional aspects of owning a business

2007 In Review!

2007 held a fascinating and popular array of programs and events for WIF.D members and friends. From movie screenings and exhibits to key educational programs, WIF.D made and impact and was a visible force in the industry and marketplace throughout the year.
“It was my pleasure to be a part of this program. I believe we'll be able to be involved in future projects with Women in Film based on the turn out.”

Program Sponsor of The World Wide Web program -- Jim Barrett – Bexel- Dallas

Looking back at our educational programing, Sony HD Media and Format Technologies provided an overview of Sony’s wide range of professional HD formats all of which were on site that evening at Magic Video for participants to see and ask questions.

Tips and techniques, and even the mistakes, from some of the leading professionals in the audio industry were shared at Audio from Pre-Production to Post over at our friends at Dallas Audio and Post, which examined all the nuances of audio production from first scout to final mix.

Getting your project aired on public television, what types of productions and costs associated with broadcasting were the topics when WIF.D members and guests attended On the Air with WIF.D , a FREE to everyone presentation at KERA.

Turnout was most impressive as WIF.D members enjoyed The World Wide Web and You: Marketing Yourself on the Internet at Reel FX with a great panel of speakers sharing their insights to our crowd.

Each of these programs were engrossing, providing a variety of knowledge and insight into our amazing industry and the talent of our speakers, members and sponsors.

Learn more about this year's great lineup and about becoming a sponsor and how you'll benefit from teaming with Women In Film.Dallas by visiting our Sponsorship page or contacting Sara Madsen Miller or Tammy Nguyen Lee at events.

World Wide Web and You In Review!

The turnout for our program "The World Wide Web and You: Marketing Yourself on the Internet" was so positive and interesting that we got so caught up in socializing and listening to the speakers that we couldn’t get to take many pictures. Thanks to Allen Mondell for capturing the great crowd.

Thank you to our sponsors – Reel FX, Bexel, House of Blues, IZZE Beverage, MPS Studios, and Texas Land and Cattle for helping us to create this informative program.

Thank you to our instructive panel of speakers again for sharing their insights to our crowd. We appreciated Paige Dawson, CEO of MPD Ventures, for coming out to share her tips and strategies for marketing and e-branding on the Web; Brian Nodeland, Producer at Texas Instruments Television, for delving into podcasting, streaming videos and webcasts; and Derek Kompare, Assistant Professor of the Division of Cinema-Television, Meadows School of the Arts at SMU on filling us in on blogging, viral campaigns and the YouTube revolution.

While this may be our last educational program of the year, stay tuned for an exciting year to come. If you are a business and wish to sponsor one of our future programs, please let us know. We will be happy to create a customized sponsor package for you and your business.

Revisiting On the Air with WIF.D

kera_crowd_copy.jpg
What a crowd! See more by visiting our Gallery!

We were so pleased with the turnout to our recent program September 11th at KERA! And it seems that those that attended were equally pleased!

Rumor has it that we had a difficult time pulling people away from the fabulous food furnished by our friends at eatZi’s. It took the lure of our giveaways from our sponsors to grab their attention.

One of the goals of Women in Film.Dallas is to emphasize all the wonderful talent in our industry, and our sponsors are five businesses that we are so proud to be associated with and to praise prior to, at the event, and afterward! We were pleased to hear that one of our sponsors said that WIF.D’s program publicity was better than their direct marketing campaigns. Another sponsor shared that they, too, were pleased with the attendance and the variety of people they met.

Publicity can’t take the credit, though. It truly was the WIF.D programming team, the topic, the great panel lined up for the evening’s events, and the audience’s participation!

Bill Young, KERA’s VP of Programming, provided a general overview of the PBS system and how KERA fits into the fold. He also updated everyone on how February 2009 will change the industry when every station goes digital, and their challenge to come up with 24-hour programming for 4 – 5 stations.

Sylvia Komatsu, Senior VP of Content, discussed KERA's Strategic Plan and three areas of focus:  News and Civic Affairs, Southwest content (history, cultural and the arts), and Children and Family. She reiterated how beneficial it is to take advantage of all platforms undefined radio, TV, and Web undefined when presenting a program.

Rob Tranchin, Executive Producer, discussed ITVS and LINCs, as well as the Minority Consortia funding avenues, and how KERA can rent equipment for a project or help with pre-production and post-production via their edit systems.

Filmmakers Allen Mondell and Cynthia Salzman Mondell of Media Projects, Inc., joined us to give us their personal perspective of getting a program on the air. They discussed working with KERA in a variety of ways and how supportive KERA was to them. They also emphasized how key it is to “love what you do, you have to be persistent, and you can’t take it personal” - Allen Mondell.

Once again, thank you to our sponsors, participants and guests for making this program such a success and for making Women in Film. Dallas a stronger organization every day!

Audio Program a Success!

audio_program_pic_thumb.jpg

Thank you sponsors and thank you, our guests, for the big turnout and positive feedback for our recent audio program at Dallas Audio Post Group, August 23rd. As you can see from the photos in our Gallery, we had a great time.

Dallas Audio Post Group was the prefect host. Folks had to be pulled away from the delicious food and drinks and great giveaways furnished by our contributing sponsors, and from the camaraderie to get the program underway. After opening remarks from WIF.D President, Meredith Stephens, Program Co-chairs, Sara Maden-Miller and Tania Khalaf, and our generous sponsors, we rotated from room to room gathering valuable tips and hearing helpful stories from industry professionals in pre-production with Don Stokes, Janis Burklund and Gordon Gibson, to production with Stacy Brownrigg, David Daniels and Rene Coronado, and post production with Brad Dale and Mark Kerins.

Many of you commented how much you enjoyed the program and how you were looking forward to meeting again and continuing the exchange of ideas and information! Check out our link to our events calendar to learn more.

Thank you again to all who participated to make this program such a success!
