We are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2013 WIF.D PSA as the Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center. Visit the DARCC site here.

Thank you to all our Women in Film.Dallas Members for your PSA nomination suggestions! It was a tough decision with such wonderful organizations to choose from.

Once again, we are calling on our members for your ideas and input! The PSA script contest is now open to our wonderful members. Scripts have to be 30 seconds and PG content to be aired on local stations. Please watch last year's PSA here and email your scripts to psa@wifdallas.org by May 1st.

We are also in need of crew (DP/Sound Mixer/Gaffer, etc.) The shoot is a one day volunteer event (date TBD in May/June) with other members and we will do our best to get the PSA aired on local stations and beyond! If you are available and would like to help, please send us an email.

    Best of luck to all,

    Kalisa Wade & Elise Graham

Faith, Love and Whiskey(75 minutes) @ Angelika - Friday, April 13, 4:30 pm

NYU grad student and one-time economics major Kristina Nikolova’s deserves an “A” for her dreamy and thought-provoking feature film. Neli is a young Bulgarian woman who leaves behind her dream life in America to return home to her passionate but self-destructive friend Val. When her fiancée, Scott, shows up unexpectedly, she has to choose between a secure future and a doomed love. Nikolova takes us on a picturesque tour of Bulgaria (the film won a jury prize for cinematography at the 2012 Slamdance Film Festival) while a different layer of Neli and Val’s past is revealed at each stop, leaving us to share the pain of a very difficult decision. Faith, Love and Whiskey is a testament to the spirit of independent filmmaking. (Bulgarian with English subtitles)

    We’re Not Broke  (81 minutes) @ Angelika - Sunday, April 15, 6 pm

With the U.S. in the grip of the worst economic recession since the Great Depression and an unprecedented budget deficit, the conclusion that our country is broke seems unquestionable. Karin Hayes and Victoria Bruce’s searing exposé reveals that multibillion-dollar corporations are based in the US, make money from American consumers, and often even receive lucrative contracts from the government, yet pay nothing in US income taxes. The film follows a number of activists who have had enough and are demanding that corporations finally pay their fair share.

Girls Girls Girls (70 minutes) @ Texas Theater - Sunday, April 22, 4pm

This is an EXTRA SPECIAL screening with HAPPY HOUR BEFORE and AFTER the film - so come early and stay late to network. Girl Girls Girls is a compendium of shorts where six filmmakers were awarded $1000 each to make a film. The filmmakers were given only two rules: 1) it had to be written, directed, produced, shot, and edited by women, and 2) the finished product had to express what "feminine strength" meant to the filmmakers.
