Meet the 2008 Chick Flicks' Emcee & Judges |
Emcee
 Linda Stogner is an artist with a unique voice. As a producer/director/writer/editor, she has received more than 60 film and television awards and numerous awards for her work as a stand-up comedian. The combination of talent brings a fresh approach to her work as a filmmaker. Winner of last year's Chick Flicks Jury Award, Ms. Stogner's latest project, Nowhere But Texas 2, is the second collection of short feature documentaries produced for KERA. She won a 2008 Finalist Award from the New York Festivals' International Broadcasting Competition for her editing work on the original Nowhere But Texas and was also nominated for a Lone Star Emmy. In 2004, she wrote and directed the first PSA produced by Women in Film Dallas, A Special Place: Gilda's Club, voiced by Meryl Streep. The spot aired in cities across the U.S. and in Canada, and WIFDallas received a national Gracie Award for the PSA. As a performer, she appeared in her autobiographical short for the national PBS series Life 360, Adopted , which won a national Clarion Award from Women in Communications. As a stand-up comedian, she was a finalist in the Last Vegas Comedy Festival, The Funniest Woman in America Contest and appeared on the Joan Rivers Comedy Special. She is the co-founder and a regular performer at the Dallas comedy club, Backdoor Comedy.
Judges
 Sylvia Komatsu is Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer for KERA. After beginning her career at the station in 1979 as a reporter for a nightly news analysis program, she went on to produce and executive produce documentaries and specials on a wide range of social, political and cultural issues. She now oversees a content division that includes radio, television, educational services and related Web content. She conceived and developed the national Emmy Award-winning series, The U.S.-Mexican War (1846-1848). As Executive and Series Producer, she oversaw this multimedia project, including a companion book, classroom materials and a bilingual Web site, which received multiple honors. Among her many national public television credits as Program Executive are Sweet Tornado: Margo Jones and the American Theater; JFK: Breaking the News; Matisse & Picasso; For A Deaf Son; and After Goodbye: An AIDS Story. A native of Fort Worth, Sylvia is a graduate of Harvard University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
 Laura Neitzel is a Documentary Writer and Producer living in Oak Cliff, Texas with her husband and three cats. Prior to joining AMS Production Group, she served for nine years as Executive Director of the Video Association of Dallas aka the Dallas Video Festival. She began her professional career with a 14-year tenure as corporate and securities paralegal, and has also been a middle-school and college English teacher and freelance writer. In addition to other film credits, in 2007, she wrote, produced and co-directed "Bodacious Boots," a high-spirited ode to the cowboy boot featuring bootmakers and boot lovers like Lyle Lovett and the late Sydney Pollack. She holds a BA from UT Austin and an MA in English from the University of North Texas. She serves on the Advisory Boards of the USA Film Festival and La Reunion TX.
 Jessica Schoenbaechler is a documentary producer and writer. After receiving the MFA in documentary production from the University of North Texas (2006), she began working for AMS Production Group, where she contributes to the production and writing of The Art of Living Gallery, a nationally-broadcast program about art and art therapy, as well as original episodic and long-form programming. Production on documentary films has allowed her to travel as far away as Israel and stay as close to home as the Texas Gulf Coast. A former high school English and Speech teacher and occasional college adjunct professor, Jessica has experience writing grant proposals, narration, magazine articles, academic papers and presentations, and visual literacy curriculum for grades 6-12. She is on the board of Women In Film.Dallas and pleased to direct the 2008 Chick Flicks Film Festival.
