WIF.D Sponsors a Young Woman at Kamp Hollywood! |
WIF.D surprises young future filmmaker with a scholarship!
When President Meredith Stephens was told that all available
scholarships for Kamp Hollywood were filled and an applicant would have
to wait
until next year, she said, "But this is what WIF.D is about!" and thus
a Women in Film.Dallas tuition scholarship for young filmmakers was created and put into
action to give assistance for a young girl in
need.
Kamp Hollywood is a day camp for
aspiring teen filmmakers taught by industry professionals in a safe,
hands-on environment. The 2008 session begins July 21st. Each child
participates in every aspect of
production and acting to create a commercial and 5 minute short film-in
only
one week! Now in its 9th
year, Kamp Hollywood has grown and is fortunate to have organizations
such as
Women in Film.Dallas step up to the plate to provide opportunities like
this for
the future filmmakers in our community.
The Kamp Hollywood Graduation Ceremony had all the glamour
of a real red carpet event when 49 kids ages 8-18 received certificates of
completion and special category awards for their participation. Held at TWL
Studios, the ceremony began with a panel discussion attended by Bob Hudgins
(Texas Film Commissioner), Linda McAlister (McAlister Talent), Greg Brown (AFI
Dallas) and many other notable industry professionals.
After a Q & A with parents and kids,
everyone walked the red carpet and was seated in TWL largest soundstage to view
each of the two production groups commercial and short film. These projects were followed by rounds of
applause as they surpassed the production quality of all the camp's previous
work. Best Picture, Best Commercial,
Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor were announced and trophies presented
along with several other technical awards.
WIFD Scholarship recipient, young Atheena received a Best Supporting Actor award for her
role in the commercial from "ConArtists Studios"- the production team who also
won Best Commercial and Best Picture.
Gratefully accepting her award, Atheena thanked Kamp Hollywood Executive
Producers, Keith and Martha Duncan and Women in Film.Dallas for offering her
the opportunity to attend.
