2008 Dallas Film Commission Advocacy Award
The Dallas Film Commission presents the Advocacy Award to Hector
Garcia, long-standing member in the industry and community and president
emeritus of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance.
Under Hector’s leadership, TXMPA found success in the 2007 legislative
session when the Moving Image Production Inventive Program was create and passed
into state law.
Hector remains devoted to promoting production in Texas, and his career as an
actor. He has served on several City of Dallas boards, panels, and commissions,
including the Human Services Commission (Vice-Chair) and the City Planning and
Zoning Commission for four terms, where he served as Chairman for three terms.
He was involved in the Dallas County Democratic Party for many years and was
chosen as a Texas Delegate to the National Democratic Convention in New York in
1992.
Hector currently serves on the Board of the Dallas Convention and Visitors
Bureau, the Board of the Local Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of
Television and Radio Artists, the Board of Friends of WRR, the Trinity River
Arts Center Board, the Board of the Trinity Commons Foundation, and as a Trustee
of the USA Film Festival, all in Dallas. He also founded Genesius, Inc., a
non-profit organization, to raise money for charity.
