2008 Rising Star Award
The Rising Star Award was established to recognize and honor a notable
woman who has made significant strides in her young career. In the inaugural
year of this award, Women In Film.Dallas is proud to bestow the first honor to
Amy Talkington, former WIF.D Scholarship Recipient and celebrated
writer/director.
Amy’s talents and ambition have brought her recognition internationally by
Vogue, CNN, The Independent Film Channel, E!, MTV, The Sundance Channel, the New
York Times, and Filmmaker Magazine which named Amy as one of "25 new Indie faces
to watch.” She is the acclaimed writer and director of the feature “The Night of
the White Pants”, which she set and shot in Dallas. The movie, which will be
released on DVD later this year, stars Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson, Nick
Stahl, and Selma Blair. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and then
concluded its festival run with sold-out screenings at AFI Dallas. Prior to “The
Night of the White Pants,” Amy directed four short films, which won multiple
awards and played festivals all over the world, including The Sundance Film
Festival.
Amy has written screenplays for Fox 2000, 20th Century Fox and Madonna's
Maverick Entertainment, has developed original TV pilots with MTV, Regency, UBU
and Tollin-Robbins Productions. In 2004, Amy wrote and produced the ABC Family
movie "Brave New Girl" which starred Virginia Madsen. Amy is also an
accomplished interactive filmmaker. In 2000, Amy co-wrote and directed the
world’s first 360-degree movie, "The New Arrival" for which the New York Times
named her "one of the few women to break out on the Internet."
It is this Texas-native’s ambition, initiative, and drive for which
WIF.Dallas proudly presents Amy Talkington with the first Rising Star Award.
