"Triumph" wins Audience Award - Updated 9/15/04

About 200 film fans gathered in Dallas to screen 11 short films by Texas women filmmakers as part of Women in Film.Dallas' "Chick Flicks" program at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas.  The third annual Chick Flicks celebration is a fundraiser for the non-profit organization, which supports and promotes women working in the Dallas film and video industry.

The Audience Award for Best Chick Flick went to Ambrosia Tuft's "Triumph," a documentary portrait of a ballerina, her love of dance and her struggle to live with the demands of the life of a dancer.  Tuft is a recent graduate of the film program at the University of Utah, and is a new Women in Film member.

Second place for the Audience Award went to Kim Fishman's "Consideration."  Third place went to Linda Stogner's "A Tribute to Turtle Classic Movies."  Fourth Place went to "The Dancing Possum" by Elise Baughman.

Eleven short films by Women in Film.Dallas members will screen at Chick Flicks 3, WIF.D's third annual showcase of the best short films by local women makers.  The event will be held at 7:30 pm at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas on September 14, 2004.

The films selected for this year's showcase are:  "Bare Witness" by Cynthia Salzman Mondell and Fonya Mondell, "The Fountain" by Stephanie Shannon, "Camelrama" by Carolyn Macartney, "Triumph" by Ambrosia Tuft, "Mother of Pearls" by ND & Laina Rose, "Standing Room Only" by Kim Fishman, "Consideration" by Kim Fishman, "A Tribute to Turtle Classic Movies" by Linda Stogner, "The Dancing Possum" by Elise Baughman, "The Texas Majority Minority" by Heather Courtney, Anne Lewis and Laura Varela and "Gilda's Club PSA" by Linda Stogner, Betty Buckley, June Owens & the WIF.D 2003 PSA crew. 

All entries highlight the work of a member or members of Women in Film.Dallas in a major role:  director, producer, writer, actor, cinematographer or editor.  The films span many genres:  documentaries, dramas, performance, comedies.  Also screening is the :30 public service announcement produced by Women in Film Dallas in 2003 for Gilda's Club, which was recently awarded a Gracie Award by the American Women in Radio and Television.  Chick Flicks 3 was curated by WIF.D member and Managing Director of the Video Association of Dallas Laura Neitzel.
