Women in Film.Dallas Announces 2006 Scholarship Recipients |

We are pleased to announce this year's scholarship recipients. The scholarships were awarded at our 22nd Annual Topaz Gala Awards, November 5, 2006.

Tania Khalaf is the recipient of a $3500 project completion grant for her documentary-in-progress, Born in Beirut. Born in Beirut is a thoughtful and poetic examination of war through the eyes of a child.
Born
and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, Tania worked as a producer, editor, and
drama teacher before moving to the U.S. She has a BA in Drama from the
Lebanese University and is currently pursuing an MFA in Documentary
Production from the University of North Texas. Her short documentary,
“still, life.” co-produced with Meta Newhouse, won the "Best
Documentary Short" at the Austin Film Festival in 2005.

Mary Benedicto
is the recipient of a $1500 project completion grant for her series of
Video Paintings. Mary has completed several elements in the series. You
can see an installation of some of her work at the American Airlines
Center in the near future. She is also affiliated with the Plush
Gallery where her work is often seen. Mary is a graduate student at the
University of Texas at Dallas and is completing her Masters in Art and
Technology.
