Women In Film.Dallas' Commitment to Mentorship Gives Texas
Woman's University Design Students Real World Professional Experience
Typically, when an internationally known, professional organization like
Women In Film.Dallas (WIF.D) decides to revamp their marketing image and
profile, they would seek ideas from several marketing firms to determine their
specific needs. Women In Film.Dallas stayed true to their mission statement to
empower, promote and mentor, looking internally to their talented pool of
members to first create a new Marketing Committee. Volunteers quickly came
together offering up their time and expertise, insuring that both the
organization and their public image would benefit. Serving on WIF.D committees
allows members to have a voice and mentor one another while learning and
networking. Current WIF.D member and former Board Director Jana Perez, a graphic
designer and Texas Woman’s University Assistant Professor of Graphic Design,
quickly and graciously volunteered the talents of both she and her students.
The Women In Film.Dallas Board and the Marketing Committee were ecstatic to
have the opportunity to work with Jana and these creative, talented young women.
WIF.D offered the graphic design students from Texas Woman’s University the
perfect opportunity to create an actual client based project, from
conceptualization to presentation. Even more valuable, is adding a professional
brand identity campaign for a high-profile, non-profit organization to their
budding resumes. Through a true collaborative spirit, this effort produced
benefits for the organization and students alike.
With the encouragement and supervision of Ms. Perez, the students: Morgan
Odell, Katerina Pilipchik, Janice McNaughton, Tamara Cropp, Miriam Requesto,
Echo Huang and volunteer Ashley Bohannon devoted much of their time creating
four distinct looks for the marketing campaign for WIF.D, their client. During
the late fall; the students attended a marketing committee meeting and conducted
a formal presentation, each taking a turn at pitching their concept. After much
deliberation, the committee presented the ideas to the Board of Directors who
were equally impressed with the results. WIF.D marketing committee member and
volunteer, Jeff Evans of Roeder and Moon Insurance, adds, “The talent these
students conveyed with their well thought out designs and presentations was
amazing. Any one of the presentations could have easily become the next new look
for WIF.D.” Ms. Perez said of the experience, “It gave the students real-world
experience and a perspective that is so vital to teaching and mentoring, and
their education.”
While the fall semester has come to a close and some of the young women have
graduated, they have volunteered to stay with the program and see the campaign
through to fruition. The entire team, both the students and marketing committee,
is still fine-tuning the final concept to be announced and presented at the next
Women In Film Dallas networking event, “Martini Madness”. Everyone is invited to
review all four concepts and see the final selection this evening, February 12th
starting at 6:00 PM at Sambuca in Addison. Members are free while guests are
only $10.00.
