Award Winners Hector Garcia, Amy Talkingtion, Garry Brown with WIF.D President Meredith
Stephens, Don Stokes and Singer/Songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman
Catch all the photos in our Gallery under Topaz 2008 Highlights!
Every year Topaz gets bigger and better, exhibiting all the
glitz and glamor that it’s known for while “making a difference” in the
community. Set in the beautiful
Eisemann Center, the crowd consisted of well high-heeled and well respected
Women In Film.Dallas (WIF.D) members, industry professionals, friends and
family who gathered for a great cause.
We are very proud of our deserving Topaz Award winners– Don Stokes,
Garry Brown, Amy Talkington, and Sylvia Gill, our Spirit Award winner, along
with the Dallas Film Commission Advocacy winner Hector Garcia– all five
outstanding individuals whose efforts inspire all of us in the entertainment
industry.

The words "Women" and "Film" shone
brightly as the video tributes paid homage to the recipients' achievements and
set an example for everyone in the audience to aspire to. As each honoree accepted his/her award and
spoke to what had led to them to this point, it was apparent that they truly
deserved and had earned the respect of everyone in the room and the
community.
The Topaz Award Gala functions as the primary fundraiser for
the WIF.D Scholarship Program but this year WIF.D also gave a special salute to
this year’s PSA recipient and every woman who has had breast cancer or knows
someone with breast cancer. Celebrated
singer/songwriter and breast cancer survivor Beth Nielsen Chapman was featured
and her melodious voice sent out a message of hope. The program also premiered the WIF.D produced Public Service
Announcement for The Bridge Breast Network, who also received a portion of the
evening’s proceeds. Cynthia Salzman Mondell, past WIF.D President stated,
"It was a powerful and moving piece that everyone who has ever sat in a
doctor's office can relate to. It
brought tears to every eye."
Topaz and Women in Film.Dallas is driven by a volunteer
force and is grateful to those individuals whose dedication and hard work
allowed Topaz to shine. A special
thanks is sent to our members whose involvement is the soul of this
organization. Women In Film.Dallas is grateful for the generosity of our
sponsors in this community. We
encourage our members, friends, and family to choose to patronize businesses
that participate in our local causes. It is our hope and desire that these
businesses will be blessed for the support they provided to Topaz and to Women
in Film.Dallas.
As our film community grows, so does our spirit. On behalf of Women in Film.Dallas, we wish
to extend our thanks to everyone whose generosity, dedication and hard work
made the Topaz Awards a fabulous success.
Due to your support WIF.D continues to empower, promote, and mentor
women and men in the entertainment, communication, and media industries.
