Striking a balance between thought-provoking subject matter
and broad commercial appeal, producer Karen Johnson of GoodMovies Entertainment
focuses on projects that feature compelling women characters, or have women
writers and/or directors. Karen produced the award-winning documentary feature
film Double Dare about Hollywood stuntwomen, directed by Amanda Micheli.
An official selection of the Toronto Film Festival, it won numerous honors
worldwide, including five major film festival audience awards, and is being
distributed internationally by First Look Studios and NBC/Universal. Through her
prior partnership with Wild Rose Productions, Karen co-produced the romantic
comedy Twice Upon A Yesterday starring Penelope Cruz and directed by
Maria Ripoll, which was distributed internationally, won many festival honors,
and was nominated for an Imagen Award and a Goya Award. Karen also produced the
fiction feature film Prospect, an adaptation of award-winning
writer/director Octavio Solis’s stage play. She also has had feature films in
development with Sony Pictures and Universal Studios. She has an MFA from USC’s
Peter Stark Producing Program and a law degree.
